Online Roulette Lets You Create Your Own Glamour

Online roulette does not bear a strong semblance to its counterpart in the so-called "real" casino, so if you were looking for the kind of glamour you see in the movies you might be a bit disappointed.

However, you shouldn't be all that despondent, because you can play it at as fast a pace as you wish, and after all, there is "glamour" in winning, isn't there?

In order to get started in roulette, it makes sense to know all the different kinds of bets that are available, whether they are the inside bets, which are placed inside the main layout, or the outside bets, which, of course, fall outside that layout.

Suffice it to say that you can bet on individual numbers, small groups of numbers, or groups of up to 12 or 18 numbers, which manifest themselves in the form of first, second or third 12 (for the groups of 12, of course); Even or Odd, High or Low and Red or Black. This is not like a game of craps; the bets are good for one spin of the wheel and one spin only.

There are two principal kinds of roulette. There is the European version, in which the wheel consists of numbers 1-36 and a single zero (0), and the American version, which has a zero and double zero (00). When you make bets in roulette and the zero (or zeros) hit, you lose. As you might imagine, those bets have less of a chance of winning in the American version than they do in the European version. For example, when you bet on an individual number, it will pay 35-to-1 if it hits. In American roulette, the odds are 37-to-1 against it coming out (because there are 38 total numbers, including the 0 and 00), while in European roulette it is 36-to-1.

Your procedure in this game is to decide what kind of bet you want to make and place it in the appropriate spot on the layout. Then the croupier (dealer) spins the wheel and the ball winds up in a spot that corresponds to a number. That's the winner.

Almost all the bets in roulette carry a built-in house edge of 5.26%. So there is no way to employ a playing strategy to win the game. There are people who instead turn to a betting strategy. The most popular are variations of the Martingale approach, in which the bet is doubled after each loss until there is a win. Of course it's risky, especially since losses can bring you over the house limit. But it's about as good a way as any for a lot of folks to enjoy the game of roulette.
